Mary Beth Eversole:
“I would dream about monsters chasing me with needles that would inject me with calories”
-Mary Beth Eversole would have these dreams before her hospitalization for anorexia
After decades of trauma—ranging in severity from car accidents to bullying and anorexia—Mary Beth Eversole ( www.marybetheversole.com ) wrote “Invisible Wounds,” a TV series that hopes to break the stigmas and silence around healing from trauma. Using her personal stories and those of strangers, she shows us the landscape to healing by holding our hands through trauma’s dark alleys. Mary Beth has become quite passionate about her work, in large part because speaking openly and honestly in a safe place played a huge role in her own recovery and took her back from the edges of death. Today, Mary Beth is no longer controlled by her eating disorder, and spends her time creating valuable content to help others. ( www.ithemovie.org )
Weekly Challenge:
Take one twenty-minute nap everyday! It seems like this should be an easy one, but it can be hard to dedicate time to rest in this hurry-up, life-is-passing-you-by society of ours. It certainly is hard for me: Most times when I take a break, I find myself thinking thoughts like, “I should be working..” Sound familiar? This is a nasty cycle that will undoubtedly leave me exhausted and vulnerable to illness.
If you can’t nap, I am with you—in this case, simply rest. No TV, no cell phone, no scrolling. I have found that I am most restored if I just get some quiet, read, or listen to an audiobook. You find what works for you! If you want extra credit then go more than 20 minutes! Extra credit for more resting—that’s how it should be.
